Midway Bridge Replacement across Butte Creek
Butte County, CAMidway Bridge Replacement across Butte Creek
This project will replace the existing bridges at Butte Creek and Butte Creek Overflow on Midway Road with a 12-span cast-in-place/prestressed concrete box girder structure 1,404 ft long by 37.5±ft wide. The new bridge foundations will consist of 9.5‑foot diameter cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) piles at the bents and Caltrans Standard driven piles at the abutments. Geotechnical services for this project include subsurface exploration, laboratory testing, seismic survey, engineering evaluation/analysis and preparation of a draft and final Foundation Report.
Mosquito Road Bridge over South Fork American River
El Dorado County, CAMosquito Road Bridge over South Fork American River
This project will replace the existing single-span, steel suspension bridge (originally constructed in the 1800’s, replaced in 1939, and rebuilt in 1985 and 1990) and eliminate the steep roadway approaches to provide all weather access and decrease transit times between the communities of Placerville and Mosquito. The proposed bridge is an 1180-foot long balanced cantilever structure consisting of three spans of cast-in-place/pre-stressed concrete segmental box girder construction. The bridge deck will be about 495 ft above the South Fork American River and descend about 40 ft from southeast to northwest. Geotechnical services included permitting, geologic review/reconnaissance, geophysical surveys, twelve test borings, soil and rock core sampling, laboratory testing, petrographic examination of rock cores, drafting and preliminary geotechnical evaluation/analysis. The field exploration program required clearing the proposed pier locations, constructing temporary platforms and use of a helicopter to transport the drill rig to pre-selected boring locations. |

Honey Run Covered Bridge Reconstruction
Butte County, CAHoney Run Covered Bridge Reconstruction
The existing Honey Run Covered Bridge that crossed over Butte Creek burned down during the November 2018 Camp Fire that went through the area. The timber bridge was originally built in 1886 and the timber covering added in 1901. The project will be rebuilt in phases as donations are raised and funding provided. Crawford & Associates provided geotechnical services, including a field exploration and testing program to develop geotechnical engineering parameters for the project and site. Phase 1, including foundations, abutments, columns, and slope projects, was completed in November 2020.
